FAQ
Scented melts are a wonderful alternative to using scented candles, they are small shapes/blocks of scented wax which melt in a burner releasing a wonderful fragrance wherever you choose to use them. You will usually find that the aroma from wax melts is stronger than a scented candle.Â
There are 2 types of wax burners, traditional tea light (small candle) burners, with which a lit unscented tea light is placed under the bowl to melt the wax, or electric burners, which plug into an electrical socket allowing heat to melt the wax.Â
Simply pop one 15g Castlewick melt into the top (bowl, dish) of a melt burner and let the wonderful scents fill your home. (see safety instructions below these FAQs)
This all depends on personal preference. Tea light burners have an open flame beneath the bowl, whilst electric burners have the heat from an element/bulb. Many take into consideration the costs of tea lights vs electricity usage. Also in consideration is that traditional types will have a stronger scent throw than an electric burner, but the scent given from the electric type will last slightly longer as the fragrance is burning at a lower temperature. Â
Unlike scented candles, the wax in a burner will not disappear, the scent will simply burn away, once the smell has faded or disappeared you can do the following:
If the wax is still warm (liquid), it can be soaked up with kitchen roll or cotton wool balls and then throw away Â
If the wax is cold and solid a lit tea light can be placed underneath or the electric burner can be switched on for a minute or so. The wax should begin to melt slightly from the bottom, releasing it from the dish so the solid block can be removed and thrown away.Â
After extensive testing and feedback from customers each 15g cube should last anywhere between 16 - 48 hours , this all depends on what type of burner is being used, please also bear in mind that each scent will have a naturally different strength of smell with some scents being more delicate than others. However i do pride myself in only using the best ingredients/fragrances I can find.Â
Scent throw is a term used to describe how strong the fragrance is and how quickly the scent travels. A good wax melt will fill the room with strong fragrance within 10 minutes of melting.
Unlike candles, wax melts do not come into contact with a naked flame so do not evaporate. Simply burn the same piece of wax until you no longer can smell the scent and dispose of the residual wax.
