When lighting the candle for the first time, let it burn until the top layer has melted (± 3-4 hours). This results in an even burn.
Between each burn, before you light your candle, take a pair of trimmers to your wick and cut it down to about 1/4 inch in height.
Then allow the candle to burn 2-3 hours at a time.
Never leave a lit candle unattended.
